300 BTC Donation to Ross Ulbricht Sparks Global Crypto Frenzy

Ross Ulbricht, who previously ran a darknet website called Silk Road and was recently released from prison, received a large sum of money on June 1: 300 bitcoins, worth about $31.4 million (₹261 crores). This donation came to his public wallet and was first reported by a blockchain analytics company Lookonchain.

Ross was pardoned by former US President Donald Trump in January 2025. Since his release from prison, many people are helping him considering him an early supporter of Bitcoin. He has previously received donations of $270,000 in Bitcoin and $111,111 from crypto exchange Kraken. But this donation of 300 BTC is the largest so far.

The Source: Tracked and Questioned

Blockchain expert ZachXBT said that this bitcoin came through a mixing service called Jambler. This suggests that this money was probably not sent by Ross himself, as it came from old wallets that were active when Ross was in prison. Later this money was transferred to the Kraken exchange, which made people suspect that Ross might now sell this money or keep it safe somewhere else.

Social Media Reactions and Speculations

People are giving different opinions on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter). Some people are saying that Ross himself has transferred his old hidden money, while some people believe that this is support from the crypto community.

Ross’s Recent Earnings and Speculated Holdings

Recently Ross earned $1.3 to $1.8 million by auctioning some of his old things. His jail ID card was also sold for 5.5 BTC (about ₹4.8 crores). It is reported that he may still have some bitcoin wallets containing about $47 million, but getting that money may be difficult due to legal and technical reasons. Source : auction page

Lingering Questions and Ongoing Curiosity

The anonymity of this donation has forced people to think that this money has been given by an old friend, or it is the remaining earnings of Silk Road, or someone has used this opportunity to “clean” the money. Ross has not yet made any statement on this.

For now, this donation shows that Ross Ulbricht is still a big name in the crypto world. While some people are supporting him, some are still asking questions about what the truth was behind Silk Road.
